Head of Research

POSITION DETAILS

  • Organisation: Chapter Four Uganda
  • Job title: Head of Research (1)
  • Reports to: Program Manager
  • Location: Kampala, with regular travel across the country

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide high quality, objective analysis and advice within specified timeframes.
  • In line with the organization’s strategic plan and different projects running at the time, initiate research and research works aimed at achieving Chapter Four’s objectives.
  • Analyse and review all available information and recommend options for implementation of new policies.
  • Advise management and stakeholders on the implications of policies, including trends, risks, and developments.
  • Contribute policy advice to the development of Chapter Four strategic planning and policies in conjunction with other stakeholders as required.
  • Contribute towards project proposal and budget development.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders and consult with internal and external stakeholders to gain support for proposed initiatives and policies.
  • Represent Chapter Four at different forums, like conferences, meetings, inter-agency coalitions, etc. as determined in consultation with the Executive Director.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • University Degree in Law, Social or Political Science, or other relevant field. A Master’s Degree will be an additional advantage.
  • Experience in human rights monitoring, documentation and reporting.
  • Three (3) years of work experience in research, evaluation and policy.
  • Proven knowledge and understanding of law, human rights, social issues, and the concepts of justice and accountability.
  • Excellent interpersonal and analytical skills.
  • Good command of MS Word, Excel and knowledge of SPSS and qualitative data analysis software will be an additional advantage.

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

Must be effective in written and verbal communication in English. Good command of other local languages will be an added advantage.
