Brief Bio

Rose Atim is a passionate human rights lawyer with a Bachelor of Laws, a Diploma in Legal Practice and a Masters in Transitional Justice, Human Rights and the Rule of Law. She began her career with Uganda’s national human rights institution where over a period of 12 years, she gained extensive experience in human rights investigations, documentation, monitoring and advocacy.

Having served in various regions of Uganda, she acquired profound understanding of each region’s unique human rights situation. Her time in northern Uganda was particularly instrumental in contributing to post conflict recovery through overseeing projects specifically designed and implemented to protect and promote human rights in a region that was recovering from over 20 years of conflict.

In the recent past, her ethnographic research in northern Uganda with female survivors of conflict related sexual violence has bettered her understanding and appreciation of the concept of time in seeking timely redress for victims of sexual violence.

Rose believes her experience, augmented with numerous trainings in human rights protection and promotion, advocacy, case management, a human rights-based approach and gender sensitivity has emboldened her commitment for access to justice for victims of human rights violations and abuse through legal action, advocacy and reform founded on equality and non-discrimination.
