On December 20, 2013, the 9th Parliament of Uganda enacted the Anti-Homosexuality Act 2014.

This prompted 10 civil rights advocates and independent groups to file a petition (Constitutional Petition No. 08 of 2014) in the Constitutional Court to challenge the law.

Chapter Four Uganda’s Nicholas Opiyo was the lead counsel for the issue on which the case was decided.
